Sunday's Obituary - Genevieve Hooper nee Brown

The Standard Speaker, 26JAN1976, pg 2

Genevieve Grace Brown was my first cousin twice removed. Our shared ancestors were Neil and Nancy "Annie" Brown nee McCoy. In the 1950 US Federal Census her marital status is "separated." As you'll see in the obituary post for her husband, John, he wasn't living in Hazleton when he died, although he was brought back for burial. He was buried in a different cemetery.

The Rev. Anthony Urban was celebrant of the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel's Church and gave the blessing at the grave in the parish cemetery. Msgr. John J. Maher was seated in the sanctuary during the mass.

Honoray pallbearers, all employes [sic] of Publix Shirt Corp., were Dorothy Contrary, Mary Novak, Rayetta Verano, Mary Majchrowicz, Catherine Sweet, Suzanne McNeal and Josephine Fiorella."

I hadn't heard of such a thing as honorary pallbearers before, but I've seen it at least one other time now. Kind of nice to recognize people that were special to the deceased that way.
