Wednesday's Child - Luella and May Naze

May R. & Luella Naze (photo credit - Rochelle Lundberg)

Or rather Wednesday's children since there are unfortunately two on this tombstone.

As I was moving blog posts from my old Blogger site to this one, I went down a rabbit hole for the name "Prosper Naze" on Newspapers.com. Prosper Naze is such a unique name so I figured finding stuff might be easier than by searching the real direct line relative of my husband's, Ella Villers (his great, grand-aunt). I was right. One of the many things I found was a tombstone for two little girls that Ella and Prosper (Jr) had...Luella and May. Both share the tombstone and they died about 2-1/2 years apart.

I haven't done any research to find out why they died. Luella was less than a year old and May died a month before her second birthday of spinal meningitis. I did have Luella in my family tree already. May was in the tree, but as an "unknown" who was born after the 1900 census and died prior to the 1910 census.

It's always sad to see little ones dying, but at least there is a name in the family tree to remember May and Luella.

Jamestown Weekly Alert - 25MAR1903, pg 6

"A daughter of Prosper Naze, Jr., aged two, died last night from spinal meningitis. Buried at Montpelier, with services at the Catholic church, conducted by Father McArdle."
